************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 283 November 27, 2015 ************************************************************************ Additions and updates to IERS website Dear IERS users, During the past few months, the following major additions and updates have been made to the central IERS website www.iers.org: 1. New IERS Directing Board Members: The changes in the IERS Directing Board reported in IERS Message No. 281 have been reflected in the relevant organizational web pages, in http://www.iers.org/DB and also in http://www.iers.org/History . 2. Relations to other organizations: The IERS Central Bureau compiled information on all relations of IERS to other organisations and the mutual representatives in the new web pages http://www.iers.org/relations . These comprise the following organisations: - International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) - International Association of Geodesy (IAG) - International Astronomical Union (IAU) - Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) - World Data System (WDS) - International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG) These new pages complete the previous pages on relations to - International DORIS Service (IDS) - International GNSS Service (IGS) - International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS) - International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry (IVS) which serve as IERS Technique Centres (see http://www.iers.org/TC). 3. IERS Terms of Reference: In March and in September this year, the IERS Directing Board (DB) decided about changes in the IERS Terms of Reference. One of the changes concerns the election of the Chairperson of the DB - eligible candidates are now not only members of the DB but also IERS Associate Members. Another change allows now to designate a proxy to attend a DB meeting and vote in the place of an absent DB member. More formal changes concern organisational changes in other organisations with relations to IERS. All these changes were applied to the text in http://www.iers.org/ToR . 4. Links - Earth rotation and IERS: The list of IAU scientific bodies (commissions and working groups) with relations to Earth rotation and IERS and the links to them have been updated to reflect the major organisational changes of the International Astronomical Union which were finalised at its General Assembly in August this year. See http://www.iers.org/linksIERS . Links to the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (ICG), the Consultative Committee for Time and Frequency (CCTF) and the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) were added to this page, because IERS is a member of ICG and maintains close relations to CCTF and BIPM. Also some further minor updates have been made. 5. Publication on ICRF2: A reference and a link to a publication (A. L. Fey et al, 2015, The Astronomical Journal 150, 58) about the 2nd realization of the International Celestial Reference Frame (ICRF2) was added to the page http://www.iers.org/ICRF2 . 6. Metadata according to ISO 19115: For IERS products metadata according to ISO 19115 "Geographic Information - Metadata" have been made available at ftp://ftp.iers.org . 7. Report to IAG: The IERS Report 2011-2015 to the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) was added to http://www.iers.org/reportsIAG . 8. Data analysis tools: Several tools for visualization and analysis of IERS data and products have been added to the IERS website at http://www.iers.org/tools : Plot tool The plot tool includes individual configurations of 2D and 3D plots of EOP data as well as a special tool for the comparison of IERS EOP products. It is now also possible to download the used data as CSV file. Interactive data analysis tool This tool allows for interactive analysis of time series (IERS data as well as data uploaded by the user). EOP of today A list of EOP data from IERS Bulletin A for the current day. Timescales This tool shows the current time or any time since 1972 in different time scales. EOP reader This reader presents the EOP parameters of a selected time period or single day. One can choose among several IERS EOP series to read data from. Most of these tools were developed in the framework of the German research unit "Earth Rotation and Global Dynamic Processes", see http://www.erdrotation.de/applications.html . Some more tools are available at that site. 9. Prehistory of the IERS: Andreas Haka, historian of science at the University of Stuttgart, provided a text on "The Foundation Phase and Establishment of the International Latitude Service at the end of the 19th Century". This document was added to http://www.iers.org/History .
