************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 105 January 4, 2007 ************************************************************************ 'Descartes - Nutation': Second Call for participation Dear Colleagues, As you probably know, the participants in the WG on 'Nonrigid Earth nutation theory' have been awarded with the Descartes Prize in 2003. The total amount of money that we received was 300 000 Euros. The European Descartes Nutation consortium has decided to use the money for studies devoted to the understanding of the next decimal of precession/nutation, from the theoretical point of view as well as from the observational point of view. After a first Call which had been sent out in 2004 several research projects have been successfully carried out but there is still a little amount of money available. Thus, a new Call for Participation is announced. We would like to get applications either from a host institution willing to accept a visiting young scientist or from a candidate who wants to go abroad or even better, from both of them. The proposals should describe the research in one or two pages and should be sent to me electronically (v.dehant@oma.be). Due to the limited amount of money available, the exchange of PhD students or Post-docs should be limited to a couple of months. The deadline for submission is February 1st, 2007. The European consortium has settled a small sub-group (the so-called Advisory Board) that will be in charge of reviewing the applications and make proposals to the consortium. The decisions will be taken according to the quality of the proposals and the available money. We would like to already mention here that a certain amount of money will be dedicated to young scientists that will be participating in the special session on nutation at the next Journees Systemes de Reference in Paris, in September 2007. Please forward this information to any colleague or institution which might be interested. Thank you for your consideration, Veronique Dehant and the Descartes Nutation Advisory Board ************************************************************************ IERS Messages are edited and distributed by the IERS Central Bureau.
