************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 487 September 05, 2023 ************************************************************************ Call for participation in the AI for EOP Prediction Study Group at GGOS Dear Colleagues, The Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) has established a new GGOS Focus Area on Artificial Intelligence for Geodesy (AI4G). The purpose is to investigate AI methods to enhance geodetic observations and products. Within the AI4G, three study groups were established, i.e. AI for GNSS Remote Sensing, AI for Gravity Field and Mass Change, and AI for Earth Orientation Parameter Prediction. If you are particularly interested in EOP prediction and intrigued by the possibilities that AI can bring to this field, we invite you to join the AI4EOP Prediction Study Group. About the Study Group: The AI4EOP Prediction study group is dedicated to harnessing the power of AI in advancing the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of EOP predictions. EOP plays a pivotal role in a range of activities, from deep-space satellite missions to precise astronomical instrument pointing and satellite-based positioning on Earth. Why You Should Join: This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team that merges the expertise of AI specialists and geodesy professionals. By participating in this study group, you will be at the forefront of shaping the future of EOP prediction. Your contributions will directly impact navigation, positioning, and astronomical endeavors that rely on precise EOP predictions. How to Join: To become a member of the AI4EOP Prediction study group, all you need to do is send us an email expressing your interest and briefly sharing your background and expertise. You can contact the JSG 3 Chair (Sadegh Modiri, sadegh.modiri@bkg.bund.de) or Vice-Chairs (Santiago Belda, santiago.belda@uv.es or Justyna Sliwinska, jsliwinska@cbk.waw.pl). We welcome researchers, scientists, students, and enthusiasts alike to be part of this exciting journey. Our Collaborative Vision: Through collaborative efforts, innovative thinking, and exploration of AI methodologies, we aim to unlock new insights into EOP theories and refine prediction methodologies. By joining forces, we can pave the way for significant advancements in navigation, positioning, and astronomical sciences. Get in Touch: If you have any questions or would like more information about the study group, feel free to reach out to us at sadegh.modiri@bkg.bund.de. We are here to provide you with all the details you need to embark on this rewarding endeavor. Join us today and be part of a community that is shaping the future of Earth orientation parameter prediction through the lens of artificial intelligence. More information about the new GGOS Focus Area can be found on the AI4G website (https://ggos.org/about/org/fa/ai-for-geodesy/). Best Regards, AI4EOP team Sadegh Modiri, Justyna Sliwinska, and Santiago Belda ************************************************************************ IERS Messages are edited and distributed by the IERS Central Bureau.
