************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 378 April 18, 2019 ************************************************************************ Job opening of Assistant Professorship at Onsala Space Observatory The Chalmers University of Technology / Onsala Space Observatory is looking for committed candidates for a faculty position as tenure track Assistant Professor in Space Geodesy. The offer comprises excellent opportunities to pursue and develop your research in geodetic VLBI and at the same time develop pedagogical skills, building the foundations of an academic career in space geodesy. All this in an inspiring research environment with access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, such as the new Onsala twin telescopes. The position is a four-year, tenure track, temporary employment as Assistant Professor with the aim to develop academically to a permanent employment as Associate Professor within 4 years. The position focusses on space geodetic techniques, in particular geodetic VLBI, including the required data analysis and processing methods for geoscience research. Your research focus should be linked to geodetic VLBI, multi-technique integration, terrestrial and celestial reference frames, earth rotation and orientation, gravity and mass transport, relativistic geodesy or related fields. Supervision of BSc., MSc. students and co-supervision of Ph.D. students is anticipated. As Assistant Professor you are expected to contribute on a longer perspective to teaching at the undergraduate level and graduate level. Internal pedagogical development will be offered you at the appropriate level. You are also expected to actively search for third party research funding. You should have a Ph.D. degree in any area related to the above professorship, as well as knowledge, experience or interest in geodetic VLBI. Meritorious qualifications would be expertise in other space geodetic techniques and corresponding applications, e.g. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR), Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR), Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning Integrated on Satellite (DORIS), and GNSS-reflectometry (GNSS-R). Extensive experience in data processing of space geodetic techniques is required. Excellent knowledge in scientific data handling and computer programming (e.g. C++, Fortran90, Python, ...) are expected. You should be able to speak and write English fluently and be willing to learn Swedish. You are welcome with your application at latest 2 June 2019.
