************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 280 November 06, 2015 ************************************************************************ Special Issue of the Journal of Geodesy on VLBI CALL FOR PAPERS VLBI is a key space geodesy technique, which plays a fundamental role in maintenance of global terrestrial and celestial reference frames, including the internationally adopted realizations ITRF and ICRF. Furthermore, the VLBI technique is unique in determination of the Universal Time and the precession-nutation of the Earth's rotation axis in space. The 2007 special issue of Journal of Geodesy devoted to VLBI was highly successful - 16 papers included in the issue collected 224 citation in Web of Science and 263 citations in Scopus. Many important changes in the VLBI technique and analysis happened since that issue, such as VLBI2010 and VGOS development, publishing ICRF2 and preparation to ICRF3, etc. Now we call the papers for a new Journal of Geodesy special issue devoted to VLBI contribution to geodesy and astrometry: "VLBI contribution to reference frames and Earth's rotation studies" We solicit papers that focus on observational, theoretical, and modeling aspects of the terrestrial and celestial reference frames and interaction between them, as well as on determination and analysis of Earth rotation parameters. Geophysical and astronomical interpretation of the VLBI-based results will be also appreciated. Contrary, the special issue is not intended to include purely technical papers. Please notice that, by agreement with Springer, the submission procedure will be organized in two steps. At the first step, we ask you to provide a preliminary title and list of authors, as well as a brief abstract covering the scope, methods, and anticipated results of your work. A tentative estimate of the expected number of pages is useful, but not mandatory. The proposals, preferably in plain text format, can be send to any of the special issue guest editors listed below. Your proposals will be carefully evaluated and considered for publication by the editors. After acceptance you will get sufficient time to complete your manuscript and to submit it to the Journal of Geodesy. Submission instruction will be provided in due time. PLEASE DON'T SUBMIT YOUR MANUSCRIPT INTENDED FOR THE SPECIAL ISSUE BEFORE THE INSTRUCTION WAS SEND OUT! The special issue schedule is as follows: Deadline for proposal submission - 15 Jan 2016 Deadline for proposal acceptance - 1 Feb 2016 Deadline for manuscript submission - 30 April 2016 Looking forward to seeing your papers in the Journal of Geodesy special issue, Special issue guest editors: Zinovy Malkin, malkin [at] gao.spb.ru Thomas Artz, artz [at] igg.uni-bonn.de Johannes Boehm, johannes.boehm [at] geo.tuwien.ac.at Robert Heinkelmann, robert.heinkelmann [at] gfz-potsdam.de ************************************************************************ IERS Messages are edited and distributed by the IERS Central Bureau.
