************************************************************************ IERS Message No. 76 September 2, 2005 ************************************************************************ Call for AGU Abstracts: Earth Rotation and Geocenter We are organizing a session, for the next fall AGU, on the Earth rotation and geocenter (G3). The meeting is hold in San Fransisco, 5-9 December 2005 ( http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm05/ ). We would like to encourage you to submit an abstract to the session. The description is given here below. Please note that the on-line abstract submission deadline is fast approaching: 8 September 2005. Thank you for your consideration. Tonie van Dam Olivier de Viron Geoffrey Blewitt Session G3: Earth Rotation and Geocenter The interaction of the solid Earth with its geophysical fluid envelopes (atmosphere, hydrosphere, and cryosphere) and its own fluid components (core and mantle) has global scale consequences. In particular, the geocenter, i.e. the position of the center of the solid Earth, materialized by the center of station networks, moves by several millimeters due to the redistribution of mass. Most of this motion is annual, but shorter and longer periods also exist. Further, the orientation of the Earth in space, and the Earth's rotation, is also affected by the Earth's interaction with these different fluid components. Significant improvements have been made both in the regimes of fluid modeling and in geodetic parameter determination. We encourage presentations from both the observation and the modeling point-of-view, as well as, presentions discussing the limitations of the measurements, and how thes factors can be improved in the future. ************************************************************************ IERS Messages are edited and distributed by the IERS Central Bureau.
