*************************************************************************** IERS Message No. 51 January 6, 2004 *************************************************************************** Call for Earth orientation contributions to PORSEC 2004 Dear colleagues, I would like to bring the "Pan Ocean Remote Sensing Conference 2004" to your attention, which will be held from November 29 to December 3, 2004, in Concepcion, Chile. The conference program spectrum is available under http://www.udec.cl/~porsec-2004 and a triptych of the first announcement can be read under http://www.udec.cl/~porsec-2004/image/triptico-1.jpg resp. http://www.udec.cl/~porsec-2004/image/triptico-2.jpg . PORSEC covers also themes, which address contributions of the IERS: - Global Climate Change, large scale changes - El Nino Southern Oscillation, medium scale changes - Is cooperation between Earth-observing space agencies successful? - Special Session: Georeferentiation I encourage IERS analysts to contribute presentations about the change of Earth Orientation Parameters (EOP) due to climate changes or the El Nino event. An analysis of IERS data in this direction would complement the studies of oceanographers, who are going to present their results obtained by remote sensing and altimetry. The models of ocean-loadings (not only for the pacific ocean) are worth to be presented due to the correct data reduction. Another session on "Georeferentiation" gives the opportunity to contribute presentations on how nowadays reference systems are defined, realized and maintained by the international services. This is specially important for a group of researchers who take often the fundamental work of the international geodetic services for granted. The conference will be hosted by the Universidad de Concepcion (UdeC) in Chile, which offers a visit at the Geodetic Observatory TIGO. UdeC has a internationally recognized and supported research group in oceanography. A deadline for abstract submission is January 10, 2004. The acceptance of the abstract will be in April 10, 2004. Any response (also past deadline) will be appreciated. My best wishes for the coming year to all of you.
